L'Assiette is a small French café and bistro, dedicated to producing quality French food that relies on the simplicity of classic dishes made with quality ingredients.
L’Assiette’s chefs bake fresh pastries throughout the day and have plenty of French treats on offer including macarons and brioches. The all-day breakfast menu puts a French spin on kiwi classics, while the lunch menu moves into more classic French fare. Recently L’Assiette has also introduced the traditional French Crêpes as well as the buckwheat savoury galettes. Come in store to try our authentic Crêpes.
In the evenings L’Assiette is transformed into an intimate bistro that offers a selection of sharing plates, followed by some classic rustic main courses. This can all be washed down with a glass of French wine before launching into a tempting selection of desserts.
“My first full time job in hospitality was in a privately owned takeaway bar in Pornichet, France when I was 20. We made everything from pizzas, kebab and sandwiches to pommes frites. In the summer months I would work up to 90 hours a week making up to 200 sandwiches a night. Through the sweat and backache I somehow developed a love for the hospitality industry.
The restaurant business took me to Chamonix, it introduced me to my future partner, it even brought me to New Zealand. Natalie and I opened L’Assiette in Britomart in 2011. So 10 years on from that first job, I still find myself enjoying what I do.”
